place museum culture in the spotlight.

The lockdown last year affected museums as much as schools and the restaurant industry. But even before the pandemic, museum culture was not accessible to all parts of society.
The installation in my project centers around the act of turning on the light, which not only serves to help people read/look at an exhibition piece but also highlights the social issue of museums or similar institutions. In this sense, the project idea could be located anywhere in combination with a museum.

The location chosen for this is in a small-town street in Hohenems. Although this street with the name "Marktstraße" is very centrally located and well-known in the town, the neighborhood remains unlively. The area is mainly characterized by the old Jewish quarter, the Jewish Museum, and the former synagogue in the heart of the area.

Switching on the light symbolizes action: something is happening here. The location in public space without barriers is also intended to involve people who would otherwise not (be able to) go to the museum. All passing people should be encouraged to pause and only through their own action - switching on the light - can the full effect of the installation be achieved.
